Recently, a fews of my frineds complainsome Windows error, 'My laptop says the user profile service failed the logon or my computer says user profile cannot be loaded error' and tehy don't know how to fix it. When you log on to a Windows 8-based or a Windows 7-based computer by using a temporary profile, do also receive the following error message:
This error message may occasionally appear because the antivirus software is scanning your computer while you try to log on, the C:Users(user-name) user profile folder was manually deleted instead of properly deleting the user account through User Accounts in the Control Panel, the C:Users(user-name) user profile folder itself was manually renamed, etc. Below we list 3 commonly used methods for you to fix it.
Note:
Method 1: Fix the User Account Profile
Steps below contain modifying to your registry. You need to backup your registry before doing following operations to avoid any problems may occur.
Windows Profile Copy
Option 1: If you have two folders starting with S-1-5 followed by some long numbers and one of them ended with .bak, you have to rename the .bak folder.
Option 2: If you have only one folder starting with S-1-5 that is followed by long numbers and ends with .bak. Right-click the folder, and then click Rename. Remove .bak at the end of the folder name, and then press ENTER.
Method 2: Delete the User Account and Create a New One
Another way to fix the user profile service failed the sign-in error is creating a new account and copy the data from the old account to the new account. Take Windows 7 for example.
If you can't logon your computer and want to create a new account, then Windows Password Recovery Tool Ultimate is a needed tool. It applies to Windows 10/8.1/8/7/XP/Vista.
After you create the new user account, read this article to copy the files from the old account to the new one.
Method 3: Delete the Error SID and Create a New Profile
Command and conquer the forgotten. A manually deleted profile does not remove the SID from the user profile list in the registry. As the SID is still present, Windows will still try to load the profile by using the ProfileImagePath that points to a nonexistent path. Therefore, the profile cannot be loaded. So we can delete the error SID and create a new profile to fix this error.

A large number of people who used to own computers that came with a version of Windows never upgraded to newer versions of Windows. Instead, they just kept the computer with the same version of Windows and updating to newer versions wasnât really considered normal until they got a new computer. Microsoft didnât want it to be that way, and it bugged the Redmond company that people were not updating to the newer versions of Windows that were released.
There are several reasons why people didnât bother upgrading to the latest version on the same computer. Many people probably didnât want to pay the money to buy another copy of Windows, but there was more to it than that. Often people were willing to pay the money to take the time and effort to do the upgrade, but they came across problems. For example, if they needed to have Microsoft Office and all of the data from Microsoft Office on the new version of Windows they needed to work out how to transfer all of that data and get the programs running on the newer version. Many headaches like this made people just not bother.
In fairness, you still do need to buy Microsoft Office for your new version of Windows 10 and you still need to backup your files (easily done these days with a USB stick), but the updating process, in general, has dramatically improved. Now you donât even need a disk to update from Windows 7 or Windows 8 to Windows 10. All you need to do is click on the button to accept the update because it rolls out over the air just like updates on your phones do (probably were the stole the idea).
One of the new features that come with Windows operating systems is profiles. Back in earlier versions of Windows, not everybody needed to have a user profile; you could just click on the Cancel button from the login screen and just use the computer as a standard user account. Nowadays that option is gone, and everyone needs to be assigned an account.
If you had an account in the earlier version of Windows that you were running before you plan on updating to the Windows 10 operating system, then you still need to backup that account if you want to migrate that account onto your new Windows 10 operating system. There is no way to do this with built-in Microsoft Windows features; instead, you need to use third-party applications.
The way you can backup Microsoft Windows user accounts to transfer them to Windows 10 is by installing the free software called TransWiz. Able to quickly and easily transfer your user accounts, TransWiz is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 to move user accounts to Windows 10 successfully. It doesnât matter what version of the Windows 10 operating system you haveâwhether it be the Home version or the Pro version or any other version. Moreover, it doesnât matter what update your computer is runningâ, e.g., the Anniversary update that rolled out lately for Windows 10 or if you are running one of the earlier version of Windows pre-Anniversary update.
Transferring user profiles from Windows 7 and Windows 8 to Windows 10
1. Download the TransferWiz program from the Major Geeks forum and then extract the file to the desktop so you can find it easily.
2. Click on the âTransferWizâ icon that is on the desktop to run the program on the computer.
3. You then get the welcoming screen for the setup wizard. Choose the top option that says âI want to transfer data to another computer.â
4. Click on the âNextâ button to continue.
5. For the transferring to work, you need to have two user accounts available because you cannot back and transfer the same user profile that is currently being used.
6. Click on the âNextâ button once you have made your selection.
7. It then directs you to the next screen that makes you pick a name and path which is where the user profile data is going to be stored on the computer. It doesnât matter where you chooseâyou might want to make it the programs folder.
8. It then makes you give the chance to enter a password to protect the account. We recommend you use the same password that is already assigned to the account in the earlier version of Windows so you can pick up right where you left off.
9. The backup of the user profile is now being made. Wait until you can see the Congratulations screen with the âtransfer has been successfully createdâ message on the display.
In conclusion, that is how to transfer user profiles from Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems to the latest Windows 10 operating system by using an application called TransferWiz.

What is a User Profile in Windows 8 / Windows 8.1?
User profile is nothing but a Record of user specific data and it define the working environment of a user. The âRecordâ includes system settings, network connections, display settings, application settings, customization and appearance settings etc. User profile can be compared with a room within a house. As there can be many rooms in a house and they can have different facilities and can be decorated differently. Like that there can be many user profiles in a Windows system having different access permissions and users can decorate their working environment differently from the other users.
User profiles are very important when multiple users are sharing a computer or a network. A network administrator or system admin can define what files, applications and directories a user can access by assigning different permissions for different users.
There are two types of user accounts in Windows 8. One is Local Account and another is Live Account. You need to have a Microsoft account (Hotmail or live e-mail id) to create a Live Account. Using live account you can sync various information and settings between two Windows 8 computers, having same Microsoft Account.
Steps to fix corrupt profile in windows 8 / Windows 8.1 :A. Creating a new user account in Windows 8 / Windows 8.1

2. Now, Right-click on cmd.exe from the result and select Run As Administrator.

4. Paste all those copied files here.

Your Chrome profile stores your browser settings, bookmarks, extensions, apps, and saved passwords. Your profile is stored in a separate folder on your computer, so if anything goes wrong with Chrome, your information is saved.
If you ever run into any problems with Chrome, trying a fresh profile can help you troubleshoot. Some tweaks may also require you to manually locate and edit your Chrome profile, so itâs handy to know where it is.
The location for Chromeâs default profile folder differs depending on your platform. The locations are:
Just replace
<username> with the name of your user folder. The default profile folder is simply named Default (or default in Linux). However, if youâve created additional profiles, their folder names are not as obvious. The name you assigned to the profile when you created it displays on a name button on the right side of the title bar on the Chrome window. Unfortunately, the name Chrome uses on the associated profile folder is a generic, numbered name like âProfile 3â.
If you need to edit one of your other profiles, you can figure out its folder name quite simply. Each time you switch profiles, a new Chrome window opens using that profile. In the Chrome window showing the profile on the name button that you want to find, enter
chrome://version in the address bar and press Enter.
The âProfile Pathâ shows the location of the current profile. For example, the location of my âWorkâ profile in Windows 10 is actually
C:UsersLoriAppDataLocalGoogleChromeUser DataProfile 3 . You can select the path and copy it and paste it into File Explorer in Windows, the Finder on OS X, or into a file manager like Nautilus in Linux to access that folder.

To back up your profile(s), copy the Default profile folder and any numbered Profile folders in the UserData folder on Windows, the Chrome folder on Mac OS X El Capitan, or the google-chrome folder in Linux to an external hard drive or a cloud service. You can completely reset Google Chrome by deleting (or renaming or moving) the data (User Data, Chrome, or google-chrome) folder. The next time you start Chrome, a new data folder will be created with a fresh default profile.
If you really want to get your hands dirty, you can set up multiple profiles with different browser settings, bookmarks, extensions, apps, and saved passwords. This is useful if you want to test things like extensions, or troubleshoot problems in Chrome without messing up your main profile. You could even have different profiles for different users, or different situations like âWorkâ and âPersonalâ.
